How is ETL testing different from Manual Testing?

Manual Testing or Automation testing is done to check the functionality of an application or a website or an Mobile App. ETL Testing is first of all not done to test if the ETL tool is working correctly. It is done to test if the data processing is happening properly as per the business requirement. So you don’t have to test the ETL tools like Informatica or Abinitio in ETL Testing.

What are ETL testing tools in the Market?

There are no specific popular tools in the market as ETL development tools are. For ETL Development there are very popular tools like Informatica, Datastage, Talend, but for ETL testing there are no special tools present in the market. Even if you research on the Internet, you will end up getting nothing for ETL Testing tools.

What all skill sets are needed for ETL Testing?

There are 3-4 things needed to be eligible for ETL Testing jobs.

SQL: SQL is very important, because you need to write SQL queries to verify the ETL logic written by the developer.
Unix: Basic 10-15 commands of Unix are needed, as some of the ETL tools use Unix also.
Data Warehousing concepts: A common ETL testing requirement – Test SCD2 on a particular Mapping. If you are new I know you did not understand this question. That’s why Data Warehousing concepts are needed.
At Least 1 ETL Tool: Basic to Intermediate knowledge of at least 1 ETL tool is needed to work on ETL Testing. Any tool like Informatica, Talend etc will do.

What type of questions are asked in ETL Testing Interviews?

The Majority of questions will be on SQL and Data Warehousing concepts. Some questions on ETL tools basics. Also they will check Manual Testing knowledge.

Is Manual Testing knowledge needed for ETL Testing?

It is Mandatory, because you must know various types of testing patterns, how to write test cases, test plan etc. Knowledge of tools like JIRA etc is also needed.

What is the basic qualification needed to learn Informatica?

There is no special requirement for learning the ETL Testing. Any bachelors degree is sufficient for being eligible for interviews.

Can only Engineers apply for job's of ETL Testing?

This is a big myth, anyone with a basic bachelor’s degree can apply for the job. The organizations prefer B.Tech, B.E, BSC, MSC, BCA, MCA, Bcom and even Arts students. Though BCom and Arts students may not be eligible in all organizations. This is specific to the organization’s rules and policies.

Can a commerce or Arts Graduate student learn ETL Testing?

Yes, there is no restriction that only Engineers or science graduates can learn or appear for ETL testing Interviews.

I do not have 60% id my degree, can I appear or am I eligible.
