Medical coding is the transformation of health care diagnosis, procedures, medical services, and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes. The diagnoses and procedure codes are taken from medical record documentation, such as transcription of physician's notes, laboratory and radiologic results, etc. Medical coding is a little bit like translation. Coders take medical reports from doctors, which may include a patient's condition, the doctor's diagnosis, a prescription, and whatever procedures the doctor or health care provider performed on the patient, and turn that into a set of codes, which make up a crucial part of the medical claim.

Medical Coding training was a great experience. A non-medical backgound person like me, could understand the topics well and could get familier with medical terms and concepts easily. The entire course and teaching is full of practical examples, with optimum theory part, which makes the learning very interesting. The course builds students' confidence to take up challenges in medical coding job. As a matter of suggestion, the cource could be sub divided into few more modules that are based on " medical coding practices and methodologies".
